I. Information UTI Gathers
UTI gathers three types of information. 1. Personally identifiable information is collected when users fill out various forms. 2. Web site tracking data is collected when users access web pages. 3. The UMAX Store uses one cookie to store information.
- Personally Identifiable Information
- Product Registration -- Users may voluntarily register their product. Required fields include the visitor's first name, last name, Email address, mailing address, city, state/province, zip/postal code, product purchased, product serial number, and date of purchase.
Under the Preferences section, users have the following three options. 1. A user may choose to stay off the UMAX mailing list. 2. If the user is on the mailing list, the user may choose to have Email delivered in HTML format or plain text. 3. A user may choose not to have his or her information shared with UMAX partners and affiliates.

Required fields include the visitor's first name, last name, Email address, mailing address, city, county, state/province, zip/postal code, telephone, payment method, and password.

- Web Site Tracking
- Standard Web Access Logs -- UTI records all accesses to all web pages and their embedded graphic/image files throughout www.umax.com in a standardized web server log format. Periodically, UTI runs the access logs through a web site analysis program and immediately deletes the access logs thereafter. The final analysis allows UTI to better understand traffic patterns and demographics. Standard web server logs do not contain any personally identifiable information.
- Tracking Specific Web Pages -- Upon accessing any UMAX product page or download driver page, data is collected and stored in a database. The information includes the IP Address, the URL accessed, the Referral URL, and the date. This level of web site tracking is more specific and permanent than the proceeding approach.
- Use of Cookies
- Definition -- A cookie is a file that a web site creates to store information on a user's computer. Cookies are controlled through an Internet browser (e.g., Netscape Communicator and Microsoft Internet Explorer). Users may manually disable cookies through their browser's preferences. By default, cookies are enabled in the Internet browser.
- UMAX Store -- The UMAX Store places one cookie on a visitor's computer. The data contained in the cookie does not store any personally indentifiable information. The benefit of using cookies is to make the online buying process as swift and efficient as possible.

III. With Whom UTI Shares Information
- The Corporate Family -- UTI is a subsidiary of UMAX Data Systems, Inc. and is affiliated with numerous sister companies in the United States and abroad. UTI expects to, and may, share some or all of your information with these other companies, in which case UTI will ask such entities to honor the promises in this policy. In addition, as part of a diligence review, UTI may disclose some or all of your personal information to a potential acquirer or merger partner, although in this case UTI would restrict their use and disclosure of this information.
- UMAX Partners and Affiliates -- UTI shares its "Product Registration" and "UMAX Store Customer Account" databases with its partners and affiliates. These third parties are strategic alliances that have been created to help users be more productive with UMAX products (e.g. training seminars and imaging solutions).
- Government Relations and Lawsuits -- In some cases, the government can compel the disclosure of information about you, and of course UTI will need to comply. However, irrespective of those situations, UTI can unilaterally turn over information about you to the government if it believes such disclosure to be appropriate, in which case you authorize it to do so. You also consent to UTI disclosing information about you to actual or potential parties to a lawsuit that UTI is or may become involved in (a) if it is required to do so, (b) if it reasonably believes that such disclosures will potentially mitigate its liability, or (c) to enforce its rights.

VIII. Limits on UTI's Privacy Policy
An Internet web page is never perfect and always evolving, and thus UTI may inadvertently make uses or disclosures of your information in ways not contemplated by, or in direct contravention of, this policy. UTI will do its best to work with you if these types of situations arise, but your sole remedy in these cases is to have UTI try to rectify the problem as soon as it can.
In addition, although highly unlikely, it is possible for Internet transmissions containing your personal information to be intercepted by others. It is impossible for UTI to ensure the privacy and security of all transmissions made to and from the UTI web sites while in transit.
Of course, UTI does not control the privacy practices of its advertisers and other third party sites that it promotes or links to. If you click through a banner ad or link and submit your information to an advertiser, you will be subject to their privacy policies. Please make sure you understand these policies before submitting your information.

IX. Commitment to Privacy
UTI has put in place appropriate physical, electronic, and managerial procedures to safeguard and secure the information we collect online. However, please keep in mind that there is no such thing as perfect security on the Internet.
