PC World (November 2000)

The Astra 6450 captures the "#2 Rating" in PC World's "Top 10 Scanners". PC World says, "The Astra 6400 and 6450 both feature an optical resolution of 600 by 1200 dpi, and each is equipped with a robust 14-bit analog-to-digital converter for processing 42-bit color images. The Astra 6450 includes a transparency adapter and easily scans 35mm slides, as well as positives and negatives of up to 4 by 5 inches."
"The first IEEE 1394/FireWire scanner we've tested, the Umax Astra 6450 delivers speedy performance and a solid list of added features. On our maximum-resolution test, the 6450 scanned
our color test photo at 50 seconds--46 seconds faster than the average of 13 other 600-dpi scanners we've tested."

MacNN.com (October 16, 2000)
MacNN.com (Mac News Network) (October 16, 2000) gives the Astra 6450 four stars and states, "The company has packed numerous professional-level features into the Astra 6450, raising the bar for consumer scanning."
"FireWire connectivity is the Astra 6450's silver bullet that puts all other consumer scanners, even more expensive ones, to shame. The performance savings become significantly apparent at higher resolutions, where a 1200+ dpi image can take ten or more minutes to scan with USB or SCSI-1 scanners."
"UMAX has done a spectacular job with the $300 Astra 6450, bringing unmatched speed and quality to the consumer level. For those not needing the built-in transparency adapter, UMAX offers the Astra 6400, an otherwise identical scanner that carries a $250 price tag."
