Shutterbug magazine reviews the PowerLook 1100 with UMAX MagicScan scanning software and says:
"The UMAX PowerLook 1100 is a very straightforward flat-bed with transparency illuminator lid that's well built and easy to work with. The software MagicScan software driver provided is also a pragmatic design and provides a flexible interface and a full array of automatic and manual tools that is hard to better in this price category of flat-bed scanners. The new configuration and FireWire interface provide a much more convenient and accessible tool for your personal computer, that is also very fast and efficient to use. . . . the UMAX PowerLook 1100
produces particularly sharp scanned images, with well-defined detail across the image brightness range."

digitalFOTO (August 2000)
digitalFOTO magazine reviews the PowerLook 1100 with UMAX MagicScan and PowerColor software and says:
"The photos we scanned between 72 and 600 dpi on the PowerLook 1100 with MagicScan produced stunning replications of color, clarity, and contrast. . . . We also scanned magazine images (300 dpi) and were treated
to striking clarity and color accuracy. We then tested higher resolutions
by scanning a postage stamp (which we don't recommend trying at home as it's not entirely legal). The 1,200 dpi scan was most impressive - ink
drops and paper fibers were crystal clear."
"The PowerColor software produces scans that you can go to press with,
and offers the convenience of negative and transparency reproductions. . . ."
