Solution:
The Apple PowerMac models 6360, 6400, and 5400, PowerComputing
Powerbase 180 and 200, as well as the UMAX C500 and C600 SuperMac suffer a
"SCSI timing" issue with a class of SCSI devices which include UMAX scanners.
In general, any system with the "Alchemy" motherboard will be subject to this
problem. In order to fix the problem with the any of the above computers with
IDE internal drives, you need to load an Apple system patch. UMAX/VistaScan
CD v. 1.02 and above have the patch in a folder titled "Apple 6360/64xx/54xx
Update"(CD 2.1 does not). You can also download the patch right here.
*Note: If you have a Power Computing Powerbase 180/200 with
SCSI hard drives instead of the standard IDE drives you will need to get a
special version of the patch from Apple.
Uncompressing a Downloaded Patch
The file should appear as "6360/5400/6400 Update 1.0.sea" in
your download area.
If you have a Power Computing PowerBase with SCSI internal drives,
or you are experiencing any problems installing the Apple update, please contact
Apple Technical Support at 800-767-2775. Or download the only "Power Computing"
patch still on Apples' Web Site.
